Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at St. Philomena’s College of Nursing, Bengaluru, on 5th August 2026. Faculty and students organized the programme together. The theme was “TRIYAMBAKAM.”

The emcees, Ms. Ancita and Ms. Bhoomika, opened with warm Onam greetings. The highlight of the opening was the grand entry of King Mahabali, who received a loud welcome. Ms. Tinu then delivered the Welcome Address, and a speech on Onam followed, describing the festival’s significance and traditions.

The theme “Triyambakam” was unveiled with a banner unfurled from the top of the building. Triyambakam signifies the divine third eye: wisdom, clarity and inner strength.

The cultural programme began with a graceful Thiruvathira performance. The Games Coordinators, Ms. Alanta and Ms. Aleena Joshy, then conducted the first round of games. Next came “Adicho Powli,” an energetic dance performance with Chenda, followed by a second round of games.

The games included a treasure hunt for faculty members, organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing. For the students there were the chair exchange game, the lemon-and-spoon race and passing the cup using a straw. In the traditional Kudam Udai (pot-breaking game), the sixth-semester B.Sc. Nursing students won and the eighth-semester students were runners-up.

Dr. Blaze Asheetha Maria Rosario announced the Malayali Manka titles, which went to Ms. Nevin (fourth semester) and a student from the sixth semester. Prizes were then given to the winners of the games, and Mr. Melkisadek delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The programme ended with a lively final dance performance and Onam wishes to all. The celebration brought the college community together in unity and joy and left everyone with cherished memories.
