The Student Nurses’ Association is a nationwide organization that aims at preparing professional Nurses by inculcating values in them. The SNA is very active and works hard for the wholesome development of the students through professional, educational and extracurricular activities.
The NSS Unit of St. Philomena’s College of Nursing was established on 30.9.2008 which forms a linkage between college and Community. It’s aim is to provide service to the society without any prejudice in order to mould their personality through community service. The motto of our NSS unit is “to serve humanity through the principle of love care and share”. Every year finance for the same is supported by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka.
The CNGI is an official unit for spiritual growth of student nurses. It encourages the student to participate in Annual Singing Competition, Lamp Lighting Ceremony, prayer service, Carol Singing, Crib Competition, and Annual Retreat, It also facilitate the celebrations such as World Day of Sick, Nurse’s Day and Graduation Day with Christian concern. On occasions such as university exams, special intentions and sickness, special Holy mass is offered through CNGI which strengthen the students spiritually too.
The alumni association of St.Philomena’s College of Nursing was inaugurated in the year 2003. Currently there are 600 alumni registered with this association. The association conducts annual workshops / conferences and the executive general body meeting is held biannually.
St. Philomena’s College of Nursing offers experience to students in the community through postings at urban and rural areas such as New Bagalur Layout & Cement line, Austin Town; and Kogilu, Bangalore. Is well equipped and caters to students in practical aspects of community through demonstrations & return demonstrations. Rich with models, and various A.V. Aids
In the Paediatric lab, students have an opportunity to demonstrate basic skills necessary to take care of pediatric patients. It also includes baby mannequins to practice nursing procedures,growth charts and immunization.
The Fundamentals of Nursing lab accommodates essential equipment and supplies with an adequate number of practice mannequins. The lab mimics the hospital setting and adds to sufficient “hands on learning” from the very basic. The lab is instrumental in ensuring every students success.
Department of OBG provides comprehensive knowledge and skills required to work and perform as able midwives in various health care settings. The department’s policy is directed toward the provision of quality professional services and performs the task holistically with reference to the women, neonates and their families.
The Nutrition laboratory is well equipped with necessary articles. The students learn to prepare normal and therapeutic diet, to obtain skill in conducting various health educational programmes and demonstrate therapeutic diets.
The library at St. Philomena’s College of Nursing is a store house of knowledge. Abode of more than 5,000 books of current Medical and Nursing publications, also many journals are subscribed regularly. Computers with internet,scanning and printing facilities are also available. The library widens its services through, Medline, Meddlers, RGUHS Helinet, CINHAL and CLINICAL KEY
St. Philomena’s College of Nursing has spacious and well ventilated classrooms with comfortable seating arrangements. Each classroom is equipped with Black/ White Board, Flannel board,OHP and LCD.
Dr.Sr.Mary Glowrey hostel offers comfortable stay for the students within the campus during their course of study. The hostel is clean and comfortable, and each room is provided with adequate facilities for stay and study. • It has a prayer hall and facilities for Indoor Games. • Students are provided with Magazines, Newspaper and Television to update their general knowledge and for entertainment purpose. • Mess facilities are available with a well maintained dining hall. • Vegetarian/ Non-Vegetarian nutritious diet are prepared hygienically and served aesthetically.
St. Philomenas College of Nursing has collaboration with Columbia University, School of Nursing, New York-USA
The sports facilities include indoor games like Carrom and Chess. There is also a play ground for outdoor games like badminton, throw ball etc. Annually competitions are held for students during the nurses week Celebrations.
